MUNICIPAL WASTE - CASTLE AND FALCON BIRMINGHAM - 16TH OCTOBER 2023

The Castle and Falcon was set ablaze on the chilly night of October 16th as Municipal Waste, the reigning kings of thrash metal, took the stage for an unforgettable live performance. With a reputation for their high-octane energy and in-your-face attitude, this show was nothing short of epic.

With the support of Undeath and Gel, by the time Municipal Waste hit the stage, the venue was already a churning pit of excitement, many sporting glowsticks at the ready.

Lead vocalist Tony Foresta, known for his raucous stage presence, didn't disappoint. He engaged the crowd with his witty banter, ensuring that the fans were constantly pumped up.

From song one, 'Deathripper' followed by 'Breathe Grease', the pit in front of the stage was a swirling whirlpool of ecstatic fans, with bodies crashing into one another in a dance of unadulterated mayhem.

You would not be able to count the amount of crowd members who made their way onto the stage before diving straight off, ready to do it all again, even at the expense of loosing a shoe or phone.

"This is way better than that fucking O2 shit" exclaims Foresta, making a dig at how bigger venues take merch cuts and just don't have the same underground vibe as venues like tonight's. At the point of the evening where the band usually takes requests, no requests could be heard as the band struggled with the brummie accents of the crowd... being mixed with alcohol probably didn't help. One loud request for 'ABBA' was politely declined.

You would be surprised to hear that the set was relatively short, lasting just over the hour mark, even more so to find the setlist was packed with 27 tracks of pure non-stop thrash.

Municipal Waste proved, once again, that they are the undisputed masters of the crossover thrash genre and can incite a party like no other.
